How I Fixed our Rice Cooker that Switch Does Not Stay Down While Cooking

I cannot recall how many times we purchased rice cooker simply because
the switch does not stay down while cooking.  While we do not have enough budget at the time to replace the existing rice cooker we put a paper or anything that can hold the switch down until the rice subside its water then we will remove the object.

We do not attempt to repair it at the repair shop because its cost is almost near the price of a newly purchase rice cooker.  What we always did is to wait until we have enough money to buy.

Last year when our rice cooker broken, I googled a YouTube video on how to repair a rice cooker and let my husband to do exactly what is presented on the video.  Lo and behold, there is no indication that the rice cooker is being repaired.  We finally, bought a new one from our cash prize last year in our year end party games.

In the office I heard one of our co-employees makes his rice cooker function again.  He said that he only removed the stains outside the bottom of the pot and of the area on and around the heating element by using sandpaper as a cleaning material.  Since it has a light indication when it is plug, it has no problem on the electronic component.  He further explained that because of those stains, it is unable to contact the pot and the heating element properly.

I patiently clean the parts of the rice cooker that he said, but to my frustration, it does not function the way I expected to be. He said that he will do it for me but I do not give up easily and continue to clean it.  However, the word contact registered in my mind that while removing the stain, I realized to examine the fitting of the pot to the heating element.  I discovered that it is elevated.

I am really decided to fixed our rice cooker so that I can used it again, I took an empty bottle of drinks near the kitchen sink and begun to rap the inside bottom of the pot until it fits exactly to the heating element.  Finally, I plugged the rice cooker and it function again.

The next time you broke your rice cooker, if there is a light when you plug it; try the following solution before you buy a brand new rice cooker:

  1. Unplug the rice cooker
  2. Clean the outside bottom of the pot
  3. Clean the heating element
  4. Plug to check if it will function already, if not
  5. Unplug the rice cooker
  6.  Examine the fitting of the pot and the heating element, if elevated, then
  7. Get an object that will serve as hammer to the bottom of the pot until it fit properly to the heating element.
  8. Plug it to check if it will function already.
Solution to problem is not always complicated; sometimes it only needs common sense.  Just do it patiently.  That’s all.
